1922 Irwin Meteor-Plane M-T

This 1922 Irwin Meteor Plane was donated to the Port Townsend Aero Museum by Dick and Jackie Baxter, of Salton Sea, California. The Irwin was manufactured by the John H. Irwin Company of Sacramento, California. When new, the airplane could be purchased as finished and test flown, or in kit form for the new owner to finish. No paperwork was found with this aircraft to indicate whether it was originally sold new as a completed aircraft or as a kit.  The Irwin was truly America's first mass produced kit-plane. The Port Townsend Aero Museum has the drawings and a glossy Irwin factory brochure from 1922.

To date, a decision on whether to restore or preserve this historical aircraft as is, has not been made by the museum.
