1942 Piper Cub

The  Port Townsend Aero Museum was selected by the owners of this Piper Cub to perform a full restoration on it. It is being restored just in time for the third generation in the same family to take over the flying duties. That's correct, the third generation in the same family!  The Grandfather bought and maintained this Cub for many years, taught his son to fly it, and now the son will teach his son to fly it. This little Piper is truly a part of their family.

Just as received, fresh from twenty seven years storage in a Puget Sound Barn. This Cub was blown over during a high wind storm in February 1979.  After the storm, the owners collected up all the parts and took the airplane home, where it's been sitting all these years.

After removing the fabric we can see what we suspected. That years of sitting in the damp NW environment have not been kind to the steel tubing.

While the fuselage is being repaired, we complete all necessary repairs to the wing structure and get started with the recovering process.
